Planning Board Approves Amended Plan for High-Rise in Journal Square

JERSEY CITY, NJ – A long-delayed high-rise apartment tower proposed for the Journal Square neighborhood received clearance after developers presented a series of adjustments to their original designs at Tuesday’s Planning Board meeting.

Representatives of the New York-based Namdar Group, a real estate investment firm, said they initially gained approval in 2019 to base the 27-story structure on the northern corner of Newark Avenue and Jersey City’s upcoming Central Avenue extension. But they described that local officials raised security concerns about the project having a garage and loading zone diagonally across from the nearby Hudson County Superior Court complex, requiring the team to modify the building and return for authorization.
